The school are always looking for "Volunteer Helpers" to help in all sorts of ways - from accompanying classes on school trips to helping in class or sharing a special skill or area of knowledge. It all enhances and enriches our pupils' learning. Some of the activities in which volunteer helpers can offer additional support are:
hearing reading groups
playing board games with small groups
mounting pictures or displaying pupils' work
accompanying classes on school trips outwith the village/locality
accompanying classes on visits/walks within the village/locality
running a lunch club or after-school club
taking small groups of pupils to teach/share a skill, e.g. baking, sewing
talking to classes about personal experiences related to class topic work
Under the supervision and guidance of the class teacher(s), volunteers can help in any class or age stage, from nursery up to Primary 7.
All Volunteer Helpers are required, by law, to undergo a "PVG" (Protecting Vulnerable Groups) check. Scottish Borders Council will meet the costs of this and forms are available from the School Office. Once PVG checks are complete, parents are then able to help in school on a regular basis.
If you would like to become a Volunteer Helper, please contact the school on 01890 818274. Our "Volunteer Helper Policy" is available to download.
